Will the patch be invisible?

Once painted, yes — that's the standard. We feather the set wide so the wall reads flat under raking light.

Do you paint the patch too?

The booked price gets you paint-ready. Add painting when we confirm the job and we'll match it in the same visit where the size allows.

Water damage — fix the gyprock first or the leak?

Leak first, always. If it's a roof leak, book both and we'll sequence them properly.

What moves the price / fixed, inc GST

Gyprock is priced by the size and position of the damage, and by what has to happen behind it before anything is set.

01Size of the damage — A door handle dint and a fist-sized hole are different jobs, and the booked options step up with the area.
02Where it is — A wall patch is straightforward. A ceiling patch is worked overhead with more setup and a slower set.
03What is behind it — Water staining means cutting back to sound sheet and finding the source. A patch over a running leak is money wasted.
04Cracks and movement — A crack that keeps returning is raked out and taped before setting, which is more work than filling the same line twice a year.
05Paint and finish — The booked price leaves the wall paint-ready. Matching the paint and the sheen is an extra step quoted with the job.

Why a patch shows later
A patch that flashes under paint was not feathered wide enough. Setting compound shrinks as it dries, so a repair is built in coats and sanded back past the repair itself until the wall reads flat under raking light.
Rushing that is what leaves the outline you can see from the doorway. Tape over a joint, mesh over a crack and a proper set over both is the difference between a repair that lasts and one that returns with the next change in the weather.

Water damage is a two-part problem
A stained ceiling is the last thing to appear and the first thing to be noticed. The stain is gyprock and paint. The cause is water, and it is almost always coming from above — a roof leak, a failed flashing or a blocked valley.
New sheet under a leak that is still running just gives the water a fresh surface. The leak gets sorted first, then the ceiling, and the two are sequenced so nothing has to be done twice.

Dust, and how it is handled
Sanding makes fine dust that settles on everything in the room, including inside cupboards. Drop sheets go down first, the sanding is done with the room closed off, and the area is vacuumed before we leave.
Setting compound and dust are both manageable with a bit of planning, which is why the room is set up before any mixing starts.
