Straight answers

How often should gutters be cleaned?

Twice a year under trees, once a year otherwise — autumn at minimum, before Adelaide's winter rain.

Two-storey homes?

Yes — the double-storey price includes harness work. We don't lean ladders on second-storey gutters.

Do you install gutter guard?

We can quote mesh guard while we're up there — the clean has to happen first either way.

What moves the price / fixed, inc GST

Gutters are priced by what the run actually needs — the height, the length and what is sitting in it.

  1. 01Storeys and roof height — A single-storey run works from a ladder. A second storey adds harness work and a slower setup.
  2. 02Length of the run — The booked single-storey price covers a standard run, so a long or L-shaped roofline changes the number.
  3. 03Trees over the roof — Gutters under gums or pepper trees fill faster, pack tighter and are heavier to bag and carry out.
  4. 04Access around the house — Side gates, carports and steep blocks decide where the ladder goes and how much is worked from the roof.
  5. 05Valleys and box gutters — Valleys collect the most litter and box gutters hold the most water when they block, so both are part of the run.

The detail

  1. 01

Why gutters block the way they do

An Adelaide gutter fills from both ends. Leaf litter blows in over summer, settles, and the first decent winter rain compacts it into a mat that holds water against the fascia instead of letting it run. That is when the overflow starts at the eaves rather than the downpipe, and when the ceiling stain appears.

Homes under deciduous trees cop it all at once in autumn. Homes on open, windy blocks collect grit and roof granules instead, which is heavier and packs down tighter.

  2. 02

    What a clear run protects

A blocked gutter is a water problem with three exits: over the edge and down the wall, into the eaves and through the ceiling, or down the downpipe into the stormwater. The first two cost money in render, paint and gyprock.

The third can back the stormwater connection up and flood at the lowest point on the property. A clear run is the cheap end of that list, and the fascia timber the whole roof edge is fixed to depends on it staying dry.

  3. 03

    How often, and when

Twice a year under trees, once a year everywhere else, is the honest rule. Autumn is the one that matters before Adelaide's winter rain, and late spring catches the second drop.

If you cannot remember the last clean, the before-and-after photos from one visit will show how much was sitting up there and how quickly it is likely to come back.

Before you book

A few things make the visit quicker and the photos easier to read.

  1. 01Clear the space under the eaves where the ladder goes.
  2. 02Tell us about a second storey when you book, because harness work changes the price.
  3. 03Mention any gutter guard already fitted so it is lifted and refitted, not worked over.
  4. 04Point out runs you already suspect — a ceiling stain, an overflowing downpipe.
  5. 05Park clear of the walls so the ladder has a straight footing.
  6. 06Pick a dry day where you can. Wet debris is heavier and the photos are harder to read.
